Helgoland is a gallery space in Langridge Street, Collingwood.
Named after Italian theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli’s book of the same title, Helgoland began as an expanded studio/gallery project by artist Deven Marriner, whose practice explores ideas presented in Rovelli’s writing.
“Helgoland,” translated into English, means “Sacred Island,” and is where Heisenberg isolated himself: “There, on the island, he found the idea that made it possible to account for all recalcitrant facts, to build the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics, ‘quantum theory’. Perhaps the most impressive scientific revolution of all time.” — Rovelli
Helgoland acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and work, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We pay respect to Elders past and present; and both acknowledge and uphold their continuing relationship to this land.
